May: National Bike Month

May is the bridge between spring and summer—the air is warming and plants are exploding with new life. It’s also National Bike Month, and what better way to get moving than by hopping on your bike and hitting some of our local paths and trails? The bees are buzzing this month, and so are we!

The League of American Bicyclists, established in 1880, began promoting this month-long celebration to inspire others to try bicycling in 1956, and it has been observed across the nation every year since. This year, 2022, the League is highlighting how you can #BikeThere. (Fun fact: Bike to Work Friday is on May 20, 2022.)

The benefits of biking are tremendous for not only your physical health but your mental health as well. Biking for just 30 minutes a day will improve your stamina, boost your immune system, strengthen your lungs, and help provide mental clarity. Any type of exercise will cause your brain to release endorphins which are known as the “happy” brain chemicals.

So, go biking and get happy and healthy!
