School is starting up in just a couple weeks, so now is the perfect time to start switching gears from fun in the sun to rising and shining and getting ready to learn. Below we have some great tips and tricks to help smooth the transition and make sure you and your kids are ready to make the most out of the new school year.

Get out of the Summer Slump

Nobody is ever ready to get up and go back to school after a long relaxing summer break, but we all know that we have to one day. One of the best ways to do this is to set school year goals for yourself! Some great ideas are to plan to get up thirty minutes early to have time for yourself or pack lunches, get more organized, or do more activities with the kids in the afternoon.

Meal Plan

“What’s for dinner?!” If you are the one who cooks in the house, you know this dreaded question. Instead of everyone wondering what to eat, you can plan out all the meals ahead of time! Doing this will even help limit the grocery shopping so you spend less money and waste less food. You can even make or buy a chalkboard or worksheet to hang on the fridge to display the plans for the whole family.

Create a Study Station

A Study Station is a great way to help the kids have their own space to do their work at home. This can look like a desk, a certain spot on the table, or even a separate room. No matter where it is, this place can be special and quiet for them to be able to do all of their homework without distractions and accomplish their school goals for the year.

Organize the Important Dates

All the important dates tend to get forgotten since there are a million things to worry about when the kids are in school. One of the best ways to organize yourself is to get a calendar and write down all the important dates for the school year on it. If this system doesn’t work for you, you can set reminders on your phone or make a list each week of all the things you need to accomplish. This will help everyone stay on track and make it to all the fun events.

Create a Routine

With the new crazy schedule, simple tasks can slip away and get forgotten. Getting into a daily routine can help you avoid this. One thing to make a routine out of is chores. Figure out who does specific chores on different days. You can even make or purchase a chore chart for the family to follow. That way the house stays tidy, and everyone stays on track. In addition, getting everyone up and in bed around the same time everyday can help everything run smoothly, and it can even help you to avoid those cranky morning moods.
