3 Baking Tips for Better Treats

Sometimes your baking projects don’t quite turn out as you hoped. Here are a few of my tried-and-true baking tips to make sweet treats just a little better.

Get with the non-stick

There are many ways to keep your dessert from sticking to the pan or cookie sheet. Cooking spray or baking spray are a simple, easy way to do just that. Some people use butter or Crisco to coat the pan then flour the entire surface. This is a longer method, but it is also a very good option. Lastly, you can use a product like a silicon mat to put on your cookie sheet. The only downside to this is that they only work on cookie sheets. But then you only have to wash the mat and not the cookie sheet. It’s a quicker clean-up!

Tweak recipes if you have to

Recipes aren’t always correct. Sometimes you have to tweak the measurements to get the consistency of your batter just right. It takes a while to figure out the right consistency for the different types of batter. And even if it isn’t just right, your baked goods will still come out tasting good most of the time.

Get creative with ingredients

Don’t be afraid to experiment with different flavors. Add marshmallows and graham crackers to that chocolate chip cookie recipe and you get awesome smores cookies. Try adding extracts like lemon to that vanilla cake for a zesty lemon cake. Getting creative with toppings on cakes and cupcakes.
