Educational Outreach
Reading Well
Once upon a time, storytelling meant sitting still and listening. Times have changed and so are the ways children learn. The Terrebonne Parish Library System outreach program, Reading Well, visits early childhood centers entertaining hundreds of children per month. This service helps to train and educate daycare workers alongside reading to children. A book, Hurrication, was written by Outreach Manager Lillie Brunet to explain to young children about evacuating for hurricanes.
Reading Forever
The success of the Reading Well program expanded with Reading Forever. This focus is on licensed assisted living and nursing home facilities’ patrons. The sites are visited often and include book discussions, arts, along with material delivery. The big book bags from Reading Well Outreach are also lent with the Reading Forever staff so book discussions and storytelling are available throughout the month.
