Setting goals is a great way to get more motivated and become more productive. What better time is there to start setting goals than at the beginning of a new year? Here are some tips to help you set and achieve goals this year.
Ask yourself “how do I want to change?”
Look into new areas of your life for change such as:
- Relationship goals – Is there anyone you want to get closer with?
- Health goals – Is your emotional, fitness, or physical health where you want it?
- Financial goals – How much do you want to earn or save?
- Educational goals – Is there anything new that you want to learn?
- Spiritual goals – Where do you want to be spiritually?
Get into a new hobby.
- All of your goals do not have to be serious. You can have fun by planning new and exciting goals for your free time such as goals to learn about a new hobby.
Imagine what you want for your future.
- Plan long-term goals as well as small goals to set yourself up for the future.
Once you figure out what you want to work on, there are many things you can do to help yourself stay motivated.
Write your goals down. If you want to be productive, it can be helpful to physically write down your goals rather than just thinking of them in your head. In doing this you are held accountable and more likely to complete them.
Create a vision board. Once your goals are set, you can create a vision board for the upcoming year. You can do this by finding images, quotes, magazine passages, or posts that inspire you, and paste them onto a poster or piece of paper. When it is finished, hang it up in a visible spot for motivation each day.
Create a schedule for yourself and include the new things in it. In order to ensure that you incorporate these new goals into your life, add them to your calendar or start making a weekly “to-do” list. Scratch off the things you have completed as you go that way you can see your progress each day.
There are many ways to stay motivated throughout the year so that you can achieve the goals you set for yourself.
Make sure your goals are achievable. Set small goals as well as big ones so that you are not overwhelmed. Look at your goal list before you decide to complete them and make sure that what you have written down is achievable for the year. If some of your goals are larger or more far-fetched, write them down on a separate long-term goal list so that you have more time to complete them!
Stay on course. Keep updating and modifying your goals that way you can always keep track of what you have accomplished and what you still want to work on.
Reward yourself for achieving goals. After making progress or completing goals, reward yourself by taking a break, going out to lunch, or take time to spend with friends and family. This will help you keep a peaceful mind without getting overwhelmed as you complete the tasks.
