Putting Books on Hold from Home
Need an item from our collection and can’t get to the library right away to check it out? You can put an item on hold through our catalog!
Go to the library’s homepage (mytpl.org) to start.
Locate the catalog search bar in the upper right section of the page. This search bar is smaller than the web address bar at the top of the page and reads “Search on Our Catalog.”
Type the title of the item, the author’s name, or the subject in the search bar. Click the magnifying glass on the right-hand side of the box OR press the Enter/Return key on your keyboard.
The results page should look similar to this image.
You must log in before you can place a hole. Either click on the orange “Place Hold” button under the item you want or click the small “Log In” option at the top right corner of the screen to bring up the log in box.
This pop-up box should appear.
Type in your 14-digit library card number (with no spaces in-between the numbers) and your six-digit pin number in the spaces provided.
Your pin number should be your six-digit birthday: ddmmyy. For example: if you were born on February 2, 1962, your pin number would be 020262. Click “Log In” in the pop-up box after entering your information. Now you’re all set to pick out an item. (If your PIN is not working, you can call your library to reset it.)
The menu on the left of the screen contains several options to narrow your search if needed. For example: the top option, “All Locations,” can be narrowed to search a specific branch (Main, North, etc.) for an item.
If your item is not at your branch, the library’s courier service can transport it from branch to branch for you to pick up later.
After you’ve logged in, the pop-up box should change to the one pictured.
Choose the pick up location you want and select whether or not you want the first available or a specific copy from a certain branch.
Then, click the Submit Hold button to complete the process. A green bar will appear at the top of the page saying you submitted a hold successfully. (If you do not get confirmation the hold was successful, try again later. If it still does not work, call your library to trouble shoot and have an employee place the hold.)
