Three Favorite Pie Recipes for Thanksgiving
Thanksgiving is all about family and giving thanks for all the blessing we have in our lives. But we all know the best part is the food. From turkey to potato salad, we eat all this good food in celebration. One crucial food at any Thanksgiving gathering is pie. It’s a trademark dessert for fall and Thanksgiving. Here are three classic pies you can make this Thanksgiving.
Double Apple Pie
Apple pies are an All-American classic. The contrast of the tart from the apples and the sweet from the sugar paired with the spices makes for an easy and delectable pie suited for any holiday.
Ingredients:
- 3 pie crusts, store-bought or homemade
- 2 ¼ pounds cooking apples (ex. Granny Smith, Jonathan, Rome Beauty, Empire)
- 1 ½ cups sugar
- 1 ½ teaspoons ground cinnamon
- 1 teaspoon ground nutmeg
- 1/3 cup butter
- 1/4 cup water
- 2 tablespoons all-purpose flour
Pecan Pie
Pecan pies are a must have for most southern Thanksgivings. It’s a perfect way to end the meal with its caramelized sugars and nutty flavor.
Ingredients:
- 1 pie crust, store-bought or homemade
- 2 packed cups of dark brown sugar
- 3 tablespoons all-purpose flour
- 1/2 cup butter
- 1 cup milk
- 3 eggs
- 1 teaspoon vanilla extract
- 1 ½ cups pecans, chopped or halves
Pumpkin Pie
Pumpkin pies are one of the go-to fall desserts. Perfect for Thanksgiving with its fall spices and the sweet creamy pumpkin. And it’s even better with a dollop of whipped cream.
Ingredients:
- 1 pie crust, homemade or store-bought
- ¾ cup sugar
- 1 teaspoon ground cinnamon
- ½ teaspoon ground ginger
- ½ teaspoon salt
- ¼ teaspoon ground nutmeg
- ¼ teaspoon ground cloves
- 2 cups pumpkin puree
- ¾ cups evaporated milk
- 2 eggs, beaten well
- ¼ cup sorghum, pure cane syrup, or honey
