Story Time at Home: Pirates

Story Time at Home

Ahoy, mateys! Have you’ve been missing story time at the library? Well, we have been missing you! Since we aren’t able to gather together in person to share our favorite books, songs, and activities, we’ve put together story times that you can do right in the comfort of your living room!

Each month we will search high and low for great books and songs for babies and toddlers and PreK to third gradersIn celebration of Talk Like a Pirate Day on September 19th, this month’s theme will take you on adventures on the high seas searching for treasure as we read and sing about pirates!

Below we’ve listed our favorite swashbuckling tales for babies to toddlers and PreK to third graders, along with finger plays, songs, and a craft for each age group. We’ve even included a fun language game for you to try.

And if you want to learn how to really talk like a pirate, check out our free language learning software, Mango Languages. Mango offers over seventy different languages to choose from and all you need is a device with access to the internet and your library card. Start learning today at bit.ly/terrebonnemango.

We hope you enjoy your story time at home and can’t wait to see you all back at the library!

Game Time

Pick a favorite song and use our own words to turn into a song about pirates! Just like “If You’re a Pirate and You Know It” takes the familiar song If You’re Happy and You Know It,” and makes it new.  Using a familiar rhythm is comforting for the kids and allows them to pick up new words easily.
