Greetings from Director Mary Cosper LeBoeuf

There’s excitement at the library with the opening of the new Gibson Branch. The 1985 facility is being replaced with a 3,000 square foot building housed in a new location, 6400 Bayou Black Drive. The new branch will have more square footage, book and DVD capacity, computers, and parking.   When the library tax was passed by voters in 1998, the library board of control and administration promised that all branches would be upgraded and enhanced to meet technological and community demands. It’s been a slow but rewarding process for this parish.

The Gibson Branch ribbon cutting will be held on Saturday, August 26 at 10:30 a.m. The public is welcome to attend. The branch will be opened until 4:30 p.m. that day, so people can obtain library cards and check-out items. Extra parking will be available at the Gibson Elementary School with shuttle service to the new library.

August 4 will be the last day that the current building will be open to the public. This allows library staff time to relocate. Books can still be returned to either location.

The hours for the branch will be 9:30 a.m. to 5:30 p.m. Monday through Thursday and 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. on Fridays. Programming for children, teens, and adults will be provided each month. Programs will include story times, arts and craft workshops, board games, and a Scrabble Club. Charlotte Celestin is the branch manager, and Rose Boudreaux is the assistant.
